Las Vegas' McCarran Airport is a great place to catch Southwest, America West and other colorful paint schemes. Because of the popularity of the casinos you can also catch a fair number of charters like HMY, Skyservice and Ryan.
Just about 2 hours drive to the east of Las Vegas is Kingman Airport in Kingman, AZ. Kingman is not a very active airport but has a number of stored aircraft including an unprecedented number of turboprop puddle-jumpers.
Perhaps the highlight of the trip was an invitation to witness the USAF Capstone air power demonstration. Four times a year the USAF blows up the desert near Indian Springs, NV. The range is part of the Nellis AFB ranges. The exercise is a show of power and a dog-and-pony show for military brass.
The photos below can only give you a slight idea of what it's like to see and feel tons of bombs hitting the desert. In all, two B-52's, one B-2, two B-1's, two F-117s, several F-16s, F-15s & A-10s and one AC-130 fired live ordnance.
